Defining game really, we'll see where we are after this.

With Cavani banned Ole will have to rely on the other strikeforce which should not be difficult as in my opinion Cavani as fallen short of expectations. Anyway I expect a Win for United but feel it will be close.

Are Villa an attacking team??? I hope they are and that it will leave the space in behind that we love. Either way in for another tough evening at home

Villa are a damn sight tougher opposition than Wolves atm, but they won't be scared of us by any means, should be a more open game
Cavani is no different to any proper striker, you don't give them service and they wither and die.

A tougher version of Leeds will do me. We expected it to be a close one too. But we've played all our excuses now.
Opponent sits back we're sh1t and they frustrate, opponents play attack us we struggle to defend. We need to start finding the formula or else every game becomes an unknown (yeah nobody has a crystal ball) but you know what i mean

Start with a rapid fast CB partner for Slabhead (as Bailly can't stay fit) then you don't have to bubble wrap Lindelof / Maguire with McT / Fred. Simple fix for starters...
Now get your own cheque book out because the Glazers won't

Ole's main points before the game
grealish we need to watch; check. they have 4 players dangerous on the counter; check. we need to be clever with passing to find the space; check. we need to not give away stupid set pieces because they can be dangerous; check
Lets see who does and who doesnt follow up on it

Ok so dug out the win.
Grealish bit; Meh. Ran their show and they hadn't much to live off
Set pieces; Villa dangerous from them and were never out of the game despite our dominance. Ole say at full time he was nervy last 10. They didn't boss but we didn't put them away either. Bailly last ditch defending showed it
Passing in behind and around them was good we moved them out of position few bad choices and poor efforts from distance but all in all good going forward.
They had no counter attack for some strange reason and built out from the back which made is less of a challenge for us instead of the long ball which would cause us more problem. So out from Grealish no real counter threat from them just 1 or 2 lapses at the back which we need to cut out
So hard fought victory and these are the sort in the olden time we'd appreciate if we had a bit of a pedigree and consistency behind. That remains the challenge
Game in hand with Burnley up next in the league followed by Liverpool at Anfield. I'd be happy with 4 out of 6.

Bailly.
He needs to stay fit... and won't unfortunately.
We need a new rapid, RELIABLE, CB this window to stand any chance of a real title shot

They all need to stay fit The attack is what it is and is just doing it so far and in the hunt so we cant complain much there. We haven't come to be relying on new signing Cavani or VDB and they would have been down for pushing hard for starting if not lining out regularly. Judging by the joy showed by fans when we signed VDB anyway The defence will always remain suspect no matter who is starting. Bailly was a calamity waiting to happen not so long ago, that fall guy recently has been AWB so we have to keep going with what we have. But as i say you just never know what you're going to get with us especially at the back.

We've got quite a big squad but a lot of mediocrity in it, key players you can't do without atm are Bruno and Rashford, hence them being constantly over played and carrying knocks. The reason Maguire and Lindelof are the mainstay CB pairing is because they're the most stable partnership he's got, not because they're the best or compliment each other. You can see the limitations - they mirror each other to the point of nullifying each other, neither one can compensate for the others weaknesses.
Bailly on his own is a crazytown wild card but that partnership, when he's fit and on form, with Maguire is very well balanced because they cover each others deficiencies so well, which is exactly what we need. Why? ...because it frees Ole from being forced to pick McT / Fred having to babysit in front of Lindelof / Maguire - it also stops AWB having to tuck in so close to the CB's to cover for them when stuff goes over the top, which stifles his game.
With Bailly / Maguire you can at least push McT into his proper position of box-to-box mid driving into the oppo third / box. Neither Fred or McT are remotely competent CDMs, which is another signing we need to make... but won't.
The cheap 'patch' for that team is a fit in form Bailly or equivalent / better CB because it frees up everyone else, particularly in the midfield area.

We can forget about strategic signings until the summer. Not saying we dont need changes but as with any January window do expect too much. This is actually a good thing for United signing players. No pressure no hype actually equals productive signings.
If everyone stays fit and start performing as a team and working for one another..................erh. I think we actually have enough but just can't take myself to say it. It's been one of these years.
The Foxes anyone? Just saying. It's all about grit now. We've shown we can dig the results out

I just can't take it seriously till 25 games in, or so. For once I'm a firm sceptic, I'm going to need more persuading

Not getting carried away but nobody else pulling up trees either. Hard to believe but title winners right down the heart of the team so it's not like we're total novices. If this was a title push in a Fergie season we'd be laughing but its just that unknown with us. We all need convincing maybe even the players but if the chance presents itself...........
