Also do you think it's ok to call a Chinese person a chink? Being an ethnic Chinese myself, my serious answer to this question is an absolute no. Neither is it okay to call a Chinese a chingaling.

Although I agree that these radicals are a problem and I don't condone racism of any kind. Nobody should have to listen to name calling and are quite entitled to be upset about it , but where is this correctness going to stop? If the Irish community were going to get all upset every time we are referred to as a "Paddy" or a "Mick" then we would be in a constant state of distress. We don't like the reference, but are we marching in the streets claiming persecution and prejudice? No we are not. I suppose the "No dogs and no Irish" signs in restaurants and bars in countries where Irish people have emigrated to for work are all made up by the media too. Are we out protesting in these countries about it ? No we are not. It's the culture of the country and we have to accept it. My point is on the fact that ethnic minorities should not be calling the shots either when they have a gripe, as I've mentioned earlier I am not racist, but I don't like people coming in to my country, my city where I have been raised, telling me that I should behave differently and seemingly must bow to their presence. I don't take my facts about things like this from the media either as Jamie alluded to, I mentioned the fact earlier that Muslim immigrants were being offended by Catholic and Christian figures in our schools and accusing us of imposing Christianity on them, this I didn't get from any media, this happened a few years ago in my own daughter's school so I have first-hand experience of this problem, the point being that these people knew already that this is a Christian country, so if something is going to offend you there then just don't go there and who mentioned abducting and raping children at all in this thread only Jamie, with his customary childish over-exaggerations to get attention to his points. Another example of this political correctness gone mad is this one that happened where I work...the background being that anyone who has ever been to Cork here would know that our main habit when speaking is to add the word "boy" to everything like.."How's it going boy?" or "See you later so boy". It's a natural thing for us like some places use "Lad" or "Man" in their speech. We then had a guy from Nigeria, (nothing against Nigerians, but that's just where he was from) start to work in our department who took offence to this and went to the HR office to complain that we were referring to him as a boy as a slur about slavery. The practice of referring to everyone and anyone as "boy" in Cork was explained to him and he flew into a rage and accused the company of condoning racism and slavery and left to start legal action. Are we now supposed to stop saying "boy" to each other and other people like we have been doing forever here for fear of offending minorities. There's no right and wrong here, but there has to be some point where we are not afraid to open our mouths in case we offend people of differing race, culture or religion. It's not right to offend people in any way, but we must find a way to say to people, come on let's move on, all this offence being taken is driving a bigger wedge between all peoples of different backgrounds. If I had been born into a multi-cultural society I may not have been there to see the changes and may have a different view on the topic, but I haven't and am in the middle of all these changes over here at the moment and find it irritating to have people complaining about the way they are being treated here when the choice was theirs and theirs only to come here and if they don't like it they can always go somewhere else. I don't believe that to be racism, just common sense really.

Unfortunately because we live in a multicultural society this name calling is obviously going to occur a !ot more than if we live in a one race society. If for an example a Pakistani called a Chinese person a chink we would hear nothing of it. But the same rule has to apply for all of us and not just the "whites" who because of political correctness are probably persecuted more than any other race. I must admit when I was growing up saying do you fancy a Chinki was part of our vocabulary when asked what food you wanted. Just like I know in London, run down to the pakis and get me a loaf of bread was commonly used. Do I think it's racist? Not really. Probably more a case of us being lazy bastards in the way we talk so instead of us saying, do you fancy going to a Chinese restaurant or run down to the Pakistanis on the corner we shortened it. At the end of the day it's not insulting their colour and too my knowledge their race either. For me using the word nigger is a racist insult because it is insulting their colour. Of course using Chinki bastard or paki fucker changes everything. This I do believe is racist and shouldn't be tolerated. For me everything depends in the context it's used in. Do I believe people like Welbeck and Khan are British? Yes I do. They are well integrated into our society, live by our laws and pay their taxes like the rest of us.

Jerry. Just the person to ask because I am probably ignorant. Can you tell us why Chink is seen as a racist term? To the best of my knowledge racist terms apply to colour of skin or religious beliefs.

Do the Irish care when they're called Paddies? Do the Scots care when they're called Jocks? Do the Welsh care when they're called Taffs? Maybe we're not as sensitive as other races or maybe we're not greedy enough to put in a claim every time we're called it. If I started putting in a claim every time I was called it I now would be comfortably retired with my Aston Martin sitting in the garage. The normal for us if we didn't didn't like to be called Paddy was to punch that person in the face and just get on with life.

You know well what the reference was there Jamie about Kordjazz's gangster attitude and for someone who claims to be so educated on the topic of racism I expected you to be aware that the word Nigga is not deemed offensive by black people as they use it towards each other themselves where the word nigger is considered a racist slur, but wasn't used.

There are plenty of lack guys around here who are not offended by it, they just laugh and call us Paddy-Irishman, no racist whining cos we are all adult enough to know that offence is not meant.
