Hart
Walker Smalling Cahill Bertrand/Rose
Dier Hendo(?)
Alli
Vardy/Sterling Kane Rooney
So how far do you guys think we can go? We were starting to look good in qualifying but Welbeck being out has been a big blow and the friendlies since have been a mixed bag, our 433 seems to have changed to a 442 diamond with Woy determined to shoehorn Alli, Kane, Rooney and Vardy along with some odd tactics and Kane on set piece duty for good measure. I'd go with the team above, Hart picks himself, Stones hasn't done enough to force his way into that back pair, Walkers been pretty decent and would prefer him over Clyne, prefer Bertrand to Rose but both fairly equal. Midfield is pretty average whoever we start with, Dier shielding the back four, Hendo is cack but starts simply out of principle, Alli will bring youth exuberance but I fear could potentially be an accident waiting to happen. Kane's got to start, him and Vardy didn't work the other night, the latter was practically useless and may be best coming off the bench. He could play wide but it doesn't really suit him and the same with Rashford with Woy feeling it will probably be too soon for him, Sterling has looked bright in the last few friendlies and may be starting to come to form. Rooney will happily play anywhere and even if he isn't at his best off the flank stills offers and produces more than Lallana and co. We should be ok with our group, they are good sides but we should still top the group. If we win the group R16 will be a 3rd place team I think so I'd expect us to get through that, the quarters is where I think we'll become unstuck with possibly facing Belgium or Portugal. If we finish second in the group then again R16 should be ok but in the quarters we'd be probably be against France who I think will win it. It wouldn't be English of me to not have a whinge beforehand

Typical England. Thought we played well first half but couldn't score, second half they improved a bit and we got more twitchy as the game went on but were still in control. Had it not been for Dier's free kick I don't think we'd have scored from open play though, given the strikers we've taken its very disappointing how little clear chances we had, Kane was poor and Lallana/Sterling are so wasteful it's unbelievable, constantly making the wrong decisions. What is the point having Vardy, Sturridge, Rashford twiddling their thumbs on the bench. It was clear we needed changes and he left it far too late. As Woy said though we were done by "a moment of unbelievable quality" from the Russians

Agree, Woy is going to be the weak link here, you can see it coming a mile off.

Are you United in disguise? Is what I was asking at the end of the game. Dominant, great build up play then not good enough in the final 3rd. How Hodgson doesn't make a single attacking change with the array of talent on the bench is beyond me. Even though we should've held on after Dier's free-kick you're always giving the opposition a chance to nick something at 1-0. Fact is our play warranted us being 2 or 3 up and if Roy hadn't sat on his hands the entire game and thrown Vardy, Rashford or even Sturridge onto the pitch early in the 2nd half we'd have won, no doubt in my mind.
Rooney was one of, if not the best player on the pitch. Definitely think his future lies in a midfield 3. Fucks me off seeing people still trying to scapegoat him because we didn't win. If he'd have stayed on the pitch for the entirety of the game I think his experience would've led to us holding on.

I agree, in a three man midfield making runs to the edge of the box like he did for our best chance he could work well. Thought Rooney was very good, orchestrated our midfield and for once we actually looked like we knew what we were doing through the middle. Further tests to come but that performance bodes well for England and us next season, give him the time and space and he'll run the show the questions arise against better opposition and teams that press higher up but he'll learn. Still people won't give him the recognition though, it didn't feel like he was shoehorned in at all last night and he has undoubted quality the others can only dream of.
The only other worry is his fitness, we saw it in the FA Cup games and yesterday, second half he seems to tire and with it his grip on the game fades. He's new to the role though so has to also learn to adjust to the challenges/conditions that come with it which he is more than capable of, better game management I think rather than him being unfit.
The trio of them Dier, Roo, Alli worked well just the latter couldn't get it right in the final third.

Great result, top of the group with a game to go, a point to qualify.
Piss poor first half.
Credit where it's due to Woy he made the changes and that lead to a better second half, attacked with more intent and had wave after wave of attacks which paid off in the end. The subs did well, scored the vital goals and Rashford excellent also.
Rashford, Sturridge and Vardy have to start next game, maybe Barkley/Wilshere for Alli.

Yep, fair play to Woy, he could have carried on making us shit but he didn't
Let's just hope we don't get booted out of the competition now. (sheep)

Well we've qualified, so there's that...
I'm not sure what to make of England, we've been underwhelming but then so has everyone really.

Sorry that we didn't have the brains to go for the group win ........ Lost that against Russia as well to be fair When I saw Lallana, Sturridge, Henderson on the team sheet was thinking only Sterling and Milner were missing ................... Yes we are qualified but why make it so hard for ourselves...... Woy to take his international retirement after this ..... He's gone senile
