Video technology was used to correct two wrong decisions as Spain beat France in a friendly in Paris. France striker Antoine Griezmann had a goal ruled out by a video assistant referee for offside.
And Spain's second goal, scored by Gerard Deulofeu, was awarded by the video official after an assistant referee wrongly flagged for offside.www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39339201Thoughts? Where do you stand on this and technology in general within Football.

I'm pretty sure we had a similar thread at the old place and I can't remember anyone disagreeing that it's the way to go forward. I mean, come on, this type of technology has been used in other sports for centuries, it's about time that football catches up.
It loses a little bit of the flavour of calling the referee a pig etc, but at the end we all want fair play and I'm pretty sure there will be more cases where you'd call him out.
The same as when they introduced the goal line technology - it has worked great so far in my opinion and has only improved the game.

Really interesting to see it in action. Looks like the acceptable amount of time before a crowd starts getting arsey is about 30 - 35 secs. I think the more the tech gets refined and they get used to the whole thing you'd be looking at <25 secs decisions and lower. Which is acceptable to me. Definitely needs full extended trials done.

Aye, they should definitely be able to speed it up, surely just a sound to ref or the video ref gives the goal/no goal and the name/number of the player involved. In those instances he was having a good chinwag for 40+ seconds, I can't stand delays in sport and fans/players aimlessly waiting around for decisions.
Felt it took away from the emotions/atmosphere of the game but the correct calls were made though in the end which is what we want so just have to get used to it I guess. Hopefully the refs don't become over reliant on it though and abuse it.
Also in what situations are they planning to use this, currently offside goals but what about offsides that took place in the build up that weren't spotted, corners that weren't corners and so on each can make or break a match take our match against Liverpool as an example, our goal would have probably been chalked off but they would still have got the penalty. It may solve one problem but builds onto another, next you have managers etc. moaning about and pushing something else so where do you draw the line?

Tell you what would speed things up and focus minds considerably. A maximum time limit, say 15-20 seconds, if no clear decision forthcoming then referees first call stands. Combine that with retroactive punishment irrespective of whether the referee sees an incident or not. Clean the whole lot up while you're at it, diving, the lot.

I think maybe start off only when there is a goal involved, because otherwise you see 5-10 situations when there's offside in the build and if the game has to be interrupted so often for 30ish seconds, it will completely ruin it for the players and fans. If they manage to narrow it down to like 10 seconds, then maybe other situations can be involved.

Been using VAR in the confed cup and you can see the problems creeping in, incredible farce checking clear legitimate goals, refs ignoring incidents and it still takes far too long. Be much better to have competent refs who know the rules.
Frustratingly shit at the minute, surely the VAR wally's should be letting the ref know about incidents rather than the ref plucking one from his arse to check, I don't understand how it can take so long either, review the footage as the match is played and give the word to the ref it really can't be that difficult.
Needs a lot of work before it ends up in the PL thats for sure.

We sat back and countered, wasn’t pretty but was effective. They couldn’t deal with the pace and power of Lukaku who took his goals well.
All told it was a comfortable evening and an important win building momentum going into a few key games.
The VAR was a complete farce though, they didn’t have a clue what they were doing, if they knew it was clearly offside (debatable) then why did it take an age just so amateurish.

VAR they are ruining through stupidity, specially last night, I mean ffs it shouldn't have even been called in the first place. But overall, so far, if you can't get a decision out in <30 seconds then you're killing the game to me. Ideally <25 seconds is the time frame they should be looking at. I timed myself before I started getting antsy.
No decision after 30 seconds, refs decision final. Not that difficult.

To me the major problem is the current offside rule. It is daft that if you have one Ball Hair that sticks out of your shorts and the Defender is clean shaven it puts you offside. They need to go back in time as to why and what the Offside rule was meant to prevent in the first place i.e. an attacker just standing miles behind the defence waiting for a route one ball. Not millimeters of daylight.

I thought the tech was better than some clown drawing lines on a touch pad plus shouldn’t the cameras be level with the field of play, that image they used looks at such an awkward angle. Offsides should be a separate system like goal line tech but because the rule is all over the shop with many grey areas i.e. Kane’s goal the other week and phases of play maybe it can’t be done.
They need to sort the offside rule out and get proper technology.
VAR should be an aid for the ref to prevent/overturn clear errors not to scrutinise and micro analyse every incident, that’s not going to work as so much of football is subjective and it takes too fecking long.

That's fair enough for me; simplify it and say 'daylight between two bodies' if the linesman can see daylight between two bodies then the man in front is clearly offside. Defenders union would moan but in theory UEFA would love it because it would favour attackers.
Although offside doesn't get rid of VAR but would certainly be one less thing it having to be used for.
