Sky pundit Charlie Nicholas
Rostov v Manchester United
United will come through pretty comfortably here and I'm expecting a typically professional job from Jose Mourinho's side on the road. He will see this as a chance to sort out his side to cope without Zlatan Ibrahimovic when he's banned domestically and I think he'll give the big man a bit of time off now. We had a great chat about Ibrahimovic's contract on Soccer Saturday and I said give him another three years because he's just pure entertainment. That little smile at the end of his post-match interview was just priceless.
I imagine he'll give Marcus Rashford a chance as he's the most natural one to play through the middle. Anthony Martial has reacted well to the reality check Mourinho has given him but I think his future is on that left-hand side. Michael Carrick might get a rest and Wayne Rooney will get another game, even though he will have been a bit disappointed with his performance on Saturday. I expect United will go to Russia and set things up to ease through in the second leg.
Charlie predicts: 1-1 and Rashford to score first

UNITED'S TRAVELLING SQUAD IN FULL
De Gea, Romero, O'Hara; Valencia, Jones, Rojo, Smalling, Blind, Darmian, Young; Carrick, Herrera, Fellaini, Pogba, Mata, Lingard, Mkhitaryan; Martial, Rashford, Ibrahimovic.
Eric Bailly has not travelled to Russia due to the one-match suspension that he earned as a result of his dismissal in United's last European match, away to Saint-Etienne. Luke Shaw and Wayne Rooney are not in the group after starting against Bournemouth on Saturday, while Bastian Schweinsteiger has stayed at home, presumably with the minor injury that the boss revealed last Friday. On a positive front, Henrikh Mkhitaryan has returned to the group and could feature for the first time since suffering an injury moments after scoring the only goal in last month's win in France.

Was Charlie's prediction and the squad on the same page  Anyways European away trips are never easy, I'd be happy with a score draw here and then do them at OT. De Gea Valencia - Smalling - Rojo - Blind Herrera Fellaini - Pogba Mata - Ibra - Rashford
I'd save Carrick for Chelsea but since he's travelled maybe he will start, Jose may well stick with Romero but he can be a bit flappy and now we're getting to the business end it's probably time to go with Dave. Hopefully we give Micky a run out ahead of Monday as well.

Pitch conditions apparantly crap .............. grab a draw and no injuries please Jose discusses United team for Rostov tie Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has admitted "I don't know which team I'm going to play” against FC Rostov on Thursday due to the state of the pitch at the Olimp-2 stadium. The United squad landed in Russia on Tuesday evening ahead of this week’s Europa League Round of 16 first-leg tie. The manager personally inspected the playing surface on Wednesday morning before holding his pre-match press conference, which he duly used to discuss his concern for the players’ safety. "It’s still hard for me to believe that we are going to play tomorrow," the manager told reporters. "I know we have to but it’s hard for me to believe we are going to play on that field, if you can call it a field." Responding to a question about Henrikh Mkhitaryan's possible involvement, Mourinho continued: "I don’t know which team to play, really. I don’t know which team I will play, I don’t know if Mkhitaryan is going to play. I have a lot to think because I was expecting something more playable. "I didn’t have any contact with anyone until now; I just had a quick contact with one gentleman from UEFA when I was looking at the pitch. And when I told him about my concerns, the gentleman told me the plays are insured - if something happens, no problem."

Looks fun. Pictures showing the same pitch for the Ajax and Bayern games showed no issues whatsoever, very playable indeed, funny that, eh. Funny how they manage to dig up their own pitch just for us.
I do hope we beat the turds, double hat-trick Fellaini, 8-0

Very nervy with this one, Russian teams are always hard to win against on their own turf, but it is an opportunity to make our life easier so reeeeally hoping for a win

Scruffy game against difficult opposition in poor conditions.
Good result, an away goal and we came out of it unscathed.

Not entirely pleased by not getting the win but again it is away from home and the pitch was shocking. At least it is a much better performance than we put against Bournemouth (especially given the team we sent to Russia wasn't exactly the entire first team).

Ugly as fuck game on an ugly as fuck pitch. Game should never have been played on that cow field, so I'm glad for the away goal. NEXT.

Yes, has as been said overall a good result. The pitch resulted in a lot of Route 1 tactics which Rostov played to their advantage to get their goal. Even though I don't rate him, maybe Fellaini could have come on earlier. But it should be a different story at OT but expect a tough Physical game.
