Onwards... Not looking forward to this given our recent games but who knows what we'll get.. I'm just hoping for some changes and we go for it. They aren't in great shape themselves but you just know they'll be right up for this. De Gea Valencia - Smalling - Blind - Shaw Carrick Herrera - Pogba Mata - Rashford - Martial

This is a League Cup game with a new fancy title is it not ? In years gone by United would be putting out a side mixed with Regular first teamers, resting the Stars and giving some of the other promising youngsters a chance to show their metal !
De Gea Valencia - Smalling - Blind - Shaw Carrick Herrera - Pogba Mata - Rashford - Martial
Is hardly that is it ? But given the oppositions locality it may well be the side on the field.
On the weekend just gone City were far from Good but United ( enough said ). We have home ground advantage which may help but unless Jose has read the Riot Act, Kicked some soccer boots in the direction of his highly paid charges we may be humiliated.
Leaving out Ibra is a must as he Flatters to Deceive.

Not as condifent as I was last week but like you said Dave City are not in a much better shape. If I could take one one very important lesson from Chelsea is that Pogba should not play as a 10, but deeper. I like your idea of Carrick behind him and Herrera.
I wonder if Micky might be fit enough for that one? I assume Blind would take Bailly's place so that would mean Shaw starting on the left. Front - I'd stick with Lingard and Rashford on the wings and Martial up front. Ibra should get some bench time

Pundits Both sides need a win. Jose Mourinho might be looking at this knowing he needs it to buy himself some time. It's turning into a really awkward moment, to an extent which Mourinho has probably never come across. He's got a pretty average team which don't play the way he likes; Eric Bailly injured, Wayne Rooney out of sorts because he's tried to fit the France international in his position and Zlatan Ibrahimovic looking more and more frustrated. As for City, Kelechi Iheanacho can come in after scoring again. They are playing well, of course they are, but they're making so many mistakes that we have to focus on the problems. I think United will get physical and I think we'll see quite a few bookings. There's no way those players can't be angry after the weekend, especially coming up against a team who have also ripped them apart. With no Bailly who will fill the back 4 ? OK they have lost De Bruyne who I rate very highly. Going to be a Bumpy ride.

The time between the fixtures is so short that it barely leaves me time to comment. In short, it was an all round good team performance which is important after the Chelsea defeat. I'm not comfortable with Rojo and Blind at CBs although they did nothing wrong, but I guess they need some better opposition to really test them. Is it me or does Carrick tie the whole team together? Or maybe not Carrick in particular but merely the presence of a defensive midfielder?

Jie I agree wholeheartedly with you, having a defensive midfielder seems to instill a sense of solidity which the guys in front of him pick up on and are not afraid to turn on some of the magic. " So what if I try something a bit cheeky and get it wrong, the lads behind me will mop it up ". Carrick is currently and has been for a while " That Guy ".
