I'm finally succumbing to the Rooney to be dropped bandwagon he's holding the whole operation back at the moment. Outplayed by Watford is unacceptable when we have more suitable people not playing. I'm grateful for everything hes done but... This is exactly what I've been thinking the last couple games. It's not that he's that bad on his own, but do you really think it's a coincedence that we've won all games that Mata has started and lost all with Rooney in that position? I found a great article about it today (link below), but these paragraphs are right on the nose: In the attempt to counter Watford’s physical presence, Mourinho picked a team of giants. But size is not enough. With Maroaune Fellaini, Ibrahimovic and Rooney playing centrally, all the pace in the side was pushed out to the wings. Yet that left United unable to seize the initiative in the middle.
To compare Rooney’s performance with that of David Silva, in the same position for Manchester City, is to understand why United are so far behind their neighbours. From Silva flows much of City’s creativity; with the imagination of his supply, the Spaniard makes his colleagues play better. He may be no quicker over five yards, but Silva is constantly involved in the game in vital places, an ability which long ago appears to have deserted Rooney.www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/09/19/manchester-united-captain-wayne-rooney-is-just-no-longer-good-en/

Sick to death of the Rooney stuff, everyone has their opinions but it doesn't matter one jot what fans, pundits and the media etc. say it's down to the manager. The only one 'holding us back' is Mourinho.
Rooney's been playing in this league since 16 years old and had at least 10 years playing at a top level, it's going to catch up with you eventually but this notion that all will be glorious when he's dropped is shortsighted to say the least and his lack of form/ability doesn't excuse the other players in the team.

He's not the only under-performer by any means, but his lack of pace not to mind his basic ball control and passing ability is really starting to hold us back of late. The captain should be driving us forward, not back. His lack of pace especially is killing any counter attacks we are launching by retreating back to the LVG bullshit of stopping and going sideways or back. Rooney played 22 passes in the first half and 13 of them were backwards....?????

England don't do cute and creative technicians.

Rooney has been shite for a long time now. If the team were playing well he could be carried but we're not. Fellaini is shite. If by playing 2 yard balls, sticking a foot in now and again and winning a few headers makes him have a good game then I'll play there. Martial still isn't ready to play week in week out. You wouldn't Ibra in the trenches when the going gets tough. If we were playing fast flowing football then yeah, he's the man but we're not. Not buying a RB was a big mistake. Valencia has a good engine but is shite at crossing balls which takes away a big part of our game. Young was better at attacking and crossing when he played there but he's shite at defending. Not his fault because he's not a defender. I agree with Rach. Schweinsteiger should be given a chance which would take the pressure off Pogba who looks like he's carrying £80m worth of pound coins on him. Mata as number 10 would also improve us because let's face it, he couldn't do any worse than Rooney. Even playing Mickey there would be an improvement. Someone who can see runs and pass the ball before the opposition close us down and as for Schneiderlin not getting an extended run for me is just dumbfounding. We have the players but need a tweek and the only one who can fix this is Mou.

Martial has been a dick, literally, off field, it's not surprising he's in a dip.

Completely unable to watch the game I'm making a judgement based on how everyone else is commenting. However, it's obvious as a team we're play boring football again and lacking a creative edge. The changes I can see making a positive impact would be:
De Gea Valencia Smalling Bailly Shaw Blind Schweinsteiger Pogba
Mickey Rashford Zlatan
I can't assemble the team properly but you get it
