Time to get the ball rolling. The new league season is upon us and quite frankly, I can't fucking wait for it to start! They were decent last season and this won't be an easy start but you can't help but feel optimistic about anything United at the minute. I'm going to be realistic with my first lineup of the season: Dave Tony V Bailly Blind Shaw Carrick Herrera Lingard Rooney Martial Zlatan This will probably come too soon for Pogba and Smalling although I think they both may make the bench. Rooney will start the season and we have to accept that. Lingard has had a good pre-season and I think he'll keep his place for this game, exactly the same for Carrick who has looked one of the better players in pre-season.

Sunday can't come quick enough.
Smalling is suspended but Pogba probably will make the bench since he'll have had a fair few days of training. Would like to see Micky but Rooney will probably start so maybe for Martial, I'd go with Herrera too but being away from home and the first game it might be Schneiderlin.
Not really fussed, it's early days so just glad to have us back in action.

Aye. I'm not expecting anything spectacular to be honest. In fact I have a feeling this game may be a bit of a chore.

Been years since I've looked forward as much to the start of the season. Going to be difficult but we have a squad to win the league but the most important thing for me is we have a squad to win titles in style. Even in SAFs last few seasons the football wasn't the greatest and as for Moyes and VG. Those 3 seasons are best forgotten forever. Time to get the kleenex out of the cupboard again. Against Bournemouth the keeper and back 4 picks itself. I'd love to see Schneiderlin given a run of games. At Southampton he was one of the best holding players if not in Europe then at least in the PL. We know he has it in him given the chance and since Carrick has been pretty wank for some time now for me it's a no brainer. Not sure if lingard will be fit for this one but now we have Mickey who I'm really looking forward to watching. But other than those 2 I agree with Jamies team. Comfortable win for us.

Take a while before Mou dials it all in I reckon. Still think we might nudge a win.

Why not Micky over Lingard?

Lingard's played well in pre-season and been favoured in the last couple of games. He shouldn't just automatically lose his place because Micky has come in. Not for me anyway. As I said in the formations thread I believe Micky will eventually make that position his own in this formation but I have a suspicion he may take a couple of months to get up to speed with the league.
To be honest if I'm picking the 4-2-3-1 formation I'd want from this group of players I'd swap Rooney for Micky in that lineup and play him at 10. That's where he feels he plays best and where he's most effective.

Football is back ! Not sure what Mou's line up is going to look like, but I believe there will be a couple of surprises because some of our star players are not fully fit and ready yet. The season has come a bit too soon for some players who were at the Euro. Valencia, Bailly, Blind and Shaw in defence obviously. Most probably Carrick in DM. Fellaini, despite his assist for Vardy, had an excellent game and looked in great shape so I expect him to start too. Zlatan upfront, Lingard on one flank if he has recovered, then comes the question of Rooney who didn't look ready for the season against Leicester, while Martial hasn't reached full fitness yet. Mkhitaryan hasn't been playing much lately, yet I believe he is one of best attacker. Could Mourinho have "spared" him Vs Leicester because he was already much fitter than the rest? Or to preserve him for the start of the season? Or is Mkhi simply not ready yet? It's probably gonna be too soon for Pogba although I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the bench if his fitness is good. This would be my personal line up: De Gea Valencia Bailly Blind Shaw Carrick Mkhitaryan Fellaini Herrera Lingard Zlatan
Same set up as against Leicester, but Herrera to take Rooney's role, and Mkhy to replace Martial.

Heyyyyy Matt is back Jamie, I agree that Lingard shouldn't lose his place but I assumed Mkhitaryan not playing against Leicester meant that Mou is saving him for Bournemouth. I completely agree with using Mkhitaryan instead of Rooney - that would easily be the best 11 we can come up with but very unlikely to happen. Although Mou is not Van Gaal so who knows, maybe over time... On a different note Martial didn't look fit enough so maybe we can play Lingard on the left and Micky on the right

Matchdaaaaaaaaayyyyyy!!!
I'm going with either germanc's line up or Jamie's, but most of all I'm expecting to see a somewhat decent level of preparedness for the season and not a City sort of display
