Another must win game if he want to keep open any hope of getting in the top 4. They got a hard earned point against Arsenal at the weekend. I expect it'll be just as tough for us. We'll have to up our game from Villa because there's no doubt Palace are going to come in with the same mindset and sit back, the difference being they have attacking players who can hurt us more. Team wise I'd go: Dave Valencia Smalling Blind CBJ Schneiderlin TFM Fellaini Lingard Rashford Martial If Herrera is back then him instead of TFM and put TFM at right back instead of Valencia.

City/Arsenal will drop points as they play each other so we have to keep in touch until then. Should be a competitive match as Palace still have a little bit to play for but they may an eye on the semi final so that will be interesting, they have quality though and will come out more than Villa I suspect so we have to be on our game.
I'd go pretty similar to vs West Ham with that front three restored, expect Carrick will come back in and Herrera too if fit. Valencia stays at right back and TFM shuffles over to the left.

It's great that we can move Mensah everywhere, I'm thinking Rooney will start this one too though. I'd keep Rojo and Mata on the bench as well - time we put a little more speed up front

DE GEA VALENCIA SMALLING BLIND FOSU-MENSAH CARRICK HERRERA ? ROONEY MARTIAL RASHFORD just not sure who to play left. Lingard or Mata? Maybe Memphis with switching sides with Martial? Thought also about Valencia with another RB. Nothing really satisfying. We really need to sign a RW in the summer! This time I'd go for Memphis despite being rather poor against Villa. Just a feeling...

The way Palace like to break quickly down the wings on the counter Mata will be useless in the LW position as seen v Spurs when Danny Rose continuously left him for dead. . Lingard or maybe Ashley Young on the left. We could also play Valencia there with Mensah at RB.

Herrera is back, so he should go straight into the 11.

Provisional squad: De Gea, Romero, Blind, Smalling, Jones, McNair, Fosu-Mensah, Darmian, Rojo, Varela, Valencia, Borthwick-Jackson, Schneiderlin, Carrick, Fellaini, Mata, Young, Lingard, Depay, Herrera, Martial, Rashford, Rooney. So I'm guessing: De Gea Valencia Smalling Blind Fosu-Mensah Herrera Schneiderlin Lingard Rooney Martial Rashford Wouldn't mind any combination of full backs, I'd rather not have Rojo, but I think Valencia has a little bit more to offer up front

I'd rather eat yellow snow.
He's never really excelled there but he could certainly lob a few in-swinging hand-grenades from the right to mix things up a little. Think I'd rather have Tony V doing a stint there tbh (with Fosu Mensah at RB), but you could give them both a run out.

I don't understand why people don't rate Lingard - he's just as young as some of the other kids, he obviously doesn't have the same technique as Martial, but he's still helped a whole lot this season and kept his place in the first team. He definitely needs to work on his finishing, but he's got bags of speed and energy and has had some goals and assist this season.

Lingard was a passenger on too many occasion. A good squad player but with 23 already 2-5 year older then the other youngsters.
The problem is not only Lingard. Lingard, Young, Valencia ... We do not have a good winger where we are used to have 4 top-class wingers. We play a striker and no. 10 in wide positions regularly. No wonder we are struggling for goals...

I wish people would stop talking about Martial (a striker?) playing as a winger. He played coming from the left at Monaco and on his few appearances for France he's been used in the same position. I think he's well suited to this position and I'm not entirely convinced that his future lies as a striker, not his immediate future anyway. If we're going to play 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, Rashford is the best option as the striker as I feel he's the most natural in this position.
I also think people are being a little harsh on Lingard. Yes he's a little older than the younger guys but he's not much more experienced. You look at Martial and Rashford and they're already pretty strong physically which is why they've been able to come in and impress at a younger age. At their respective ages Jesse was this little, skinny, gangly thing who would never have cut it in the premier league as he'd have just got bullied. He's only developed physically pretty late and considering this is also only his first season at this level of football, he's done more than enough for me.

We struggle with goals because of the way he sets them up. VG's way is to keep possession and rely on clinical finishing and a clinical finisher - exactly what we did't have. It's the complete opposite of what we've always been about.
VG's ideal striker is Rashford, he's his perfect forward, that's why he keeps saying he reminds him of Kluivert. If Rashford continues doing what he's doing and VG stays, Rashford will be No1 striking option and Rooney won't get a look-in, he'll be fighting it out with Mata. Martial you can just let develop and take the weight off him.
Lingard at this point is ideal for filling gaps in certain games, he's an important squad payer atm but I wouldn't underestimate how much further he can go. Young and Valencia are coming to the end but they can still do a job and put a shift in, especially Tony V when he's focused and ticking.

I like lingard to be honest but I feel that he suits the 10 positions in games like City where we are going to counter them and all that but VG keeps persisting with him there when I have been impressed with him on the wings rotating with rashford and martial like in the West Ham game. I think because Herrera is back he must play the team he played at West Ham with Valencia in for Rojo.
I think we will win and it won't be pretty but with the semi on Saturday and amount of matches left in the league it's all about the 3 points.

Herrera is back, so he should go straight into the 11. ....and Fellaini straight into the number 12 role.
