The make up and character of some of those players just isn't right. If they can't deal with Sunderland stepping up 15 yards and getting into them in the second half then there's something wrong.

Our only chance of CL football is to win the Europa league. With this manager, we might... When hell freezes over.

I also don't get LVG's decision to bring Memphis on and switch Martial to the right. Absolute nonsense decision to accommodate an underperforming player by moving your best attacker to a different position. As it happens, Memphis got himself in some good positions and had a few good chances but not surprisingly failed to take any of them.
The whole second half was a complete mess. Absolute lack of urgency from the players. Mata, Rooney, Carrick all guilty of holding on to the ball for way too long instead of passing or even taking a shot on a few occasions.

Feck, very dissapointing, blown a big chance of top four. Sums up our season really as we've not been good enough.
First half did ok, conceded a jammy and needless free kick, reaction was good and got the equaliser to go into half time level. Second half just never got going, scrappy, fouls, sloppy play, poorly defended corner which we struggled with all day, Fellaini was a big miss and they went in front. Chased the game for the last few minutes but it was already gone.
When Carricks not on it, we don't seem to be either.
All to do for the top four now, might be time to throw everything at the Europa.

This was the weekend that we could not afford to drop points with all the top 4 playing each other it was the perfect chance to make up ground. We could have 60 points to play for and I'd still say we won't get it. We're not good enough.

Jamie why are you always harsh on Memphis, is it because of expectations cos I think he did well compared to lingard but Martial disappointed cos Van Aanholt was attacking a lot. we played poorly and it's like under moyes where it's not surprising to see us lose or play bad...

Harsh on Memphis? I said he shouldn't have been put on the left and that I wasn't surprised he didn't take any of his chances. Hardly being harsh. It wasn't one of Lingard's better games but I thought the ref did him no favours, was being bashed about all over the place and getting nothing.

Fair enough maybe I read what you said wrongly then, I agree with you. It was a horrible performance, just sad that as you all said we were out fought by Sunderland but I will be honest I wasn't sure about Borthwick-Jackson but I am convinced he can really make it and impressed by his composure again. I hope on Thursday Keane gets more minutes.

Memphis is useless, seems to be a theme with the dutch that they've become absolutely hopeless at football all of a sudden Love wasn't ready and got exposed twice (poor guy had to play out of position, i know i was really angry about his defending but yeah, too soon for him send him out on loan should have someone else playing their, even if its someone playing out of position) Martial was by far our best player Rooney was trying and it showed (one of the few people who did try) but the end product wasn't there at all, he has no business starting as a lone striker for us. We should play 2 up front in all honesty. We don't have a world class striker who can handle the load by himself. Fucking idiotic of the club to not buy a striker in the window. Also if i'm rooney i am seriously considering China, get paid whilst you can (especially if they're offering him north of 500k per week) Jackson is great though, great going forward on the left flank, i love his movement, him and Shaw as our left back rotation for years to come is at least something, great left backs are hard to come by and we have two at the club.
what can i say, losing to a relegation candidate in sunderland, yeah may as well bring mou now if he is the one we are going with anyway, get rid of the pretense and just let him put his own spin on it and be ready for next season, we're not getting top 4 and trying to qualify for the europa league is a waste of time

lol.
This is what gets me, people moan when players get played out of position instead of letting a youngster fill in. Yet when we do that it goes the other way, Love is a full back playing at full back and he did fine for his first appearance in the PL, confident on the ball and made some attacking moves. Our defence/midfield was all over the place but let's stick it on the debutant, he wasn't the one losing his man on a corner. We are out of options, who else should we be playing there?
Where were Martial and Rooney in that second half? At least Memphis had a go and worked the keeper.
Collectively we were dreadful but it's the subs fault.

What gets me is people moaning about Love playing out of position, showing their absolute lack of knowledge on him as anybody who has bothered to watch the under 21's in the last 3 years will realise he plays all over the back 4 but right back is his best position. Criticising his performance is just plain pathetic, yes he got caught out of position a couple of times but in general I thought he did great. Wasn't scared of getting on the ball, good in the attacking 3rd and not scared of putting his foot in. And above all, as I said Yesterday IT WAS HIS FIRST FUCKING GAME!!!!!!!!! and the rest of the team deciding to not bother turning up either so it was hardly an easy introduction.
Memphis did ok when he came on, at least looked like trying to make something happen. My frustration was that we shifted Martial to the right to accommodate him. I still think he looks sluggish though and incredibly predictable, defenders seem to be very comfortable defending against him at the minute on the left. I still think if he's to play we should try him out at 9.

Overall very disappointing, I can get not playing well but this is the sort of games that we should be picking a 1-0 result at the very least. This whole season feels like watching some other team. I'm glad to see the youngsters getting some playing time, even if it's brought on by the ton of injuries to first team players - if we don't get top 4 at least this would be my comforting thought.
