Another midweek game in the form of a league cup home tie vs Ipswich. They've started the season well in the Championship and sit 5th after 8 games, so it may not be as easy a game as people expect. After all, we thought MK Dons would be easy last season and look what happened. We don't want a repeat of that so we shouldn't underestimate them. That being said I hope the young players who haven't featured so far get a run out. I'd go with : De Gea
Valencia Smalling Mcnair Rojo
Schneiderlin Schweinsteiger
Lingard Pereira Young
Wilson

Don't think de Gea will start. I think it will be Romero. I can see Rojo partnering Mcnair at the back with Young at leftback. Bastian to be the DM alongside Fella in midfield. Herrera playing the #10 position with Pereira moving to the left.

No reason to change the keeper for me. It'll definitely be a stronger team than vs MK Dons last season that's for sure.

I don't know what's going on with the youngsters, we don't want to sell, don't want to loan but they aren't getting any game time bar McNair. Chelsea and City have given more chances than us so far so I'm hoping that they'll be involved in this one otherwise...
I think Dons was a little different, we are much more settled now and these players know they have a future here so I'd be confident in whatever team we put out though I don't expect an easy game.
As Eric suggested I wouldn't be surprised to see Romero, LVG trusts him but we'd be in safer hands with Dave of course. I wouldn't be surprised to see Rooney start either as he needs a few games to get going again and he'll want to play. Personally I'd like to see how Schneiderlin and Herrera would do as a combo, with the former I think we'd have enough defensive cover to cope otherwise the same as Jamie's team.
I hear Jones is coming back as well so would be nice if he could get a few minutes.

Yeah I'll be pissed off if the youngsters don't get a run out in this game. The 3 I mentioned aren't even playing for the U21's at the minute so they need to get some game time. Will be interesting tonight actually to see if any of them are in the u21 side.

I'd rather see Johnstone instead of Romero. No clue though how his agent's comments will impact his time here. And thinking of MK Dons, only De Gea and Powell remain at United from that starting XI, I guess. I hope the manager isn't very cautious with the line up. McNair starting is highly probable.
Johnstone Valencia McNair Rojo Young Bastian Herrera Rooney Lingard Wilson Perreira
DDG Jones Blind Schneiderlin Fellaini Memphis Martial

Wilson, Lingard and Johnstone all start for the U21's tonight. Makes it look unlikely that any of them will feature vs Ipswich unless they don't play 90 mins.

Indeed which is disappointing, Pereira in with a shot possibly but hasn't he just come back from injury.

Wilson and Lingard complete 90 minutes. Highly unlikely they'll start but both scoring and Lingard in particular playing very well, they should still at least get themselves a spot on the bench.

The manager's pre match press conference should give us some idea but I don't know when it is scheduled for. Mick McCarthy, now Ispwich boss, spoke about his joy defeating him with Ireland in a vital world cup qualifier. Louis would definitely not want him to win again.

Team news
United defenders to miss Ipswich cup tie
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed Marcos Rojo and Paddy McNair suffered injuries against Southampton and will miss Wednesday's Capital One Cup clash with Ipswich Town.
Rojo is unavailable due to a hamstring problem, while McNair, who replaced the Argentinian for the final 20 minutes of Sunday's win at St Mary's, is ruled out of the third-round tie at Old Trafford with a "minor" issue.
On a more positive note, the midweek meeting with the Championship side could bring Phil Jones's first appearance of the season. The defender, who has been sidelined with mild thrombosis, is back in the squad and will be on the substitutes' bench – though van Gaal admits the centre-back is not 100 per cent fit.
The boss told MUTV: "Rojo has a hamstring injury and Paddy McNair has a minor injury.
"I have to admit that because of the injury of three defenders [including Luke Shaw], I shall have Jones on the bench but he is not fit."
Meanwhile, young duo James Wilson and Jesse Lingard won’t be required to face Ipswich after they both scored in 90-minute displays for the Under-21s against Everton on Monday.
The manager added: "I don’t need them so they can have a day off and then Thursday they will be fresh and can train."
Wilson and Lingard won't even be on the bench by the looks of it because he doesn't need them. Pathetic and this is my first genuine grievance with him this season.

The only positive I took, from players being sold or loaned, was the likes of Perreira, Wilson and Lingard getting games. From what he's said it looks unlikely in a fixture where the youngsters are generally given a chance. If it is not a COC tie then when will they feature. Atleast having them on the bench and playing them depending on how the game panned out would have been fine. But he has other ideas and I'm not very pleased.

will probably be a rotated squad but it will be good to see how Perreira, Wilson and Lingard get on
that being said we should win easily
no need to change keepers also. Keepers don't get tired really, and De Gea won't be doing a whole lot (well he shouldn't have to), its just good to have a guy who will be alert if need be (which at times, when it is quiet, Romero does switch off)
