He could be one of the possible close-enough replacements for Carrick and someone who plays multiple positions/roles equally good. Perfect playmaker from the deep, has a great range of passing, very good vision and drive, composed on the ball, linking up with the lads wherever plays on the pitch, talent and footballing intelligence in abundance. Seems like that recovers from the back injury very well too.

2 seasons ago I thought it was imperative we buy him, now, I still want him, but his importance to the team, I feel, would be lesser now due to the 3 of Carrick, Herrera and Fellaini.
We (should) have a lot of games to play next season, with injuries and squad rotation it is definitely a must to buy a gundogan or a similar player of that ilk.

I'm always on the opinion that every single one of them is a risk when changing the club and especially the culture he lives in, regardless of injury proneness. That risk is always smaller if the transfer fee is fairly reasonable and/or when a player shows an overall improvement in his recovery and form.  |

for 15 million, at worst he is going to be quality cover (and i mean proper quality) when healthy is probably on par with Herrera, the only issue is his health, even then its not like he's Owen Hargreaves

Another baller in midfield, on top form there aren't many better him in my opinion, he can control the game and change the course of it in a flash. Brilliant player to watch when fit and on top form, could be what Anderson couldn't be for us if we get him of course.

I thought Blind was supposed to be Carrick's long term replacement? Looks like he'll become a versatile squad player if this transfer happens. Must admit that besides during Dortmund's quality champions league run a couple of seasons ago I haven't seen a whole lot of Gundogan. I always had him down as playing a more advanced role than the deep-lying playmaker one he's being lined up for, not necessarily as an attacking midfielder but similar to the position Herrera normally occupies.
