If Di Maria was dogshit I don't know what Young was, I can't believe it. So you prefer that slow tippy tappy stuff and keeping possession when we are losing than Di Maria trying to effect the game. He was trying to create whilst the others except from show just tried to keep possession. Blind, Herrera and Fellaini were poor today be it on possession or positionally. Just a game to forget about, Di Maria and Falcao seem to be the scapegoats on here and on social media. The captain should be exempt from playing on Merseyside since he always disappears.
We shall see what happens next week, I am sure the players will be more motivated than they were today just a really bad day at the office.

Di Maria and Falcao aren't the scapegoats at all. They're not the reason we lost today but it doesn't mean that they weren't poor.

Fair enough I just disagree that he couldn't have been as poor as the man he replaced and Young but I guess we will agree to disagree. Gotta have someone who can do the job when Carrick ain't there

I think this game was just an off day.
What I would like to mention though, is the need for LVG to assess his squad for this summer. There has been improvement, we're controlling possession very well, but we struggle to make a real impact. Keeping the ball like that forces teams to drop very deep, and when we face a solid defensive unit like Chelsea or Everton, we simply don't have the players to unlock defences.
Where is our Messi? or Ronaldo? or Robben? Because that's exactly what we're missing in our new system. LVG has made the TEAM stronger, but now it is time to get the special players who will make this team world class and not just good. Di Maria should have taken that role, but I am afraid it's not going to click. Young and Mata have both had great season, but it's fair to say we're missing that extra quality upfront.
We also need a world class player to cover or replace Carrick because we have seen how poor we're without him.

Not because of today but I'd be more than happy to sell Di Maria to PSG for not a huge loss and replace him with Bale. There is your world class match winner who can unlock the best defences in the world with a moment of individual brilliance. Di Maria will improve next year if he's still here but I have a feeling he'll never adapt to English football fully. He was always hit and miss at Real until his last 12/18 months when he was played in central midfield. As a wide player he's always been very inconsistent...I don't see that changing with us.

I see your argument but you can say that Bale had his best season when he was behind the striker and he wasn't exactly consistent last season or this one out wide for Real Madrid. I agree that out wide he's either at it or poor which is what was pointed out here when he signed. I hope he does improve next season and play the way he did at the beginning of the season.

Very disappointed with today's result and today's performance. We were far too cautious, predictable and slow in and around the box. While I strongly agree that we just didn't turn up, it was somewhat alarming to see how much more Everton wanted it today.
I'm confident we'll bounce back against West Brom, as these days happen but I'm gutted about today. Someone else has said, but there's still lots of work to be done.
We must not panic.

What a way to kill the momentum.
This just goes to show that there is still work that needs to be done. The end of the season is near so I'm not too bothered but let's not fall under the impression that we have suddenly become the best team in the league. There is still some tweaking needed here and there.

Bale's played well for Madrid, just not well enough for their over-expectant fans. We know Bale will handle the premier league, he was outstanding for a slightly above average Spurs side, he'd be outstanding for us. By the way I'm not calling for Di Maria to be sold and replaced by Bale but the question was asked about having that superstar player to match other top sides in Europe and I don't think we have that right now. Di Maria may improve and I'm certain he will if he's still here but I don't think he's up to Bale's level, especially if he's going to be used out wide.

Fair enough and I agree with you, like you I thought he would be that player when we signed him that Ronaldo was and I don't think we have had that player since he left, Nani in 10/11 you could argue but maybe Di Maria is a better Nani, just as inconsistent as him. I just feel that sometimes our fans expect so much from him, when he has the ball the expect him to dribble past everyone and score some of those that critic him. Maybe not you but he has been disappointing to be fair, just don't have player who can take the initiative or unlock a tight defence.

I think Di Maria has been poor since the International break in October, shown the odd glimpse like the f.a cup game vs Arsenal and a few others but nothing really impressive. He's too easily dispossessed, his passing is off and he doesn't look particularly keen on getting involved. I think it's more a confidence issue with him at the minute but that's no excuse, as if he stays and performs the same next season I will start to call for him to be sold on why he's still pretty valuable.
I keep thinking he's not strong enough or he's too scared about getting clattered and not getting the decision but when you think about his start at the club against Burnley, QPR, Leicester, West Ham and Everton he was actually very good in all aspects of his game including how he coped with rougher tactics by some sides. So he's definitely got it in his locker to perform well for us in England.
I'm sure that with a full pre-season and regaining some confidence he'll turn into a top player for us next season but I just can't help but feel if Bale is available this summer it could be a great chance to add that superstar player to our side that could take us to that very top level with the other key additions in the squad.

TBH I thought we didn't play that badly, but were hampered by two key problems. First, our inability to penetrate through Everton's defence despite monopolising possession, and secondly our sloppy defending. Particularly in the second half, we saw lots of the ball but instead of creating substantial chances, we were huffing and puffing and only managing to pass it just outside Everton's box. As for the defending... well, hasn't it been like this all season? The first was just criminal; no-one picked up McCarthy, and while the deflection was unlucky, Blind's subsequent challenge on McCarthy was pathetic. The second goal highlighted our flaws in defending set-pieces. The third one was kind of bullshit, to be honest, but it also highlighted our defensive problems. No-one was watching Mirallas' run, and if someone had done so we would definitely have not conceded that goal.
I'm not sure how we ended up with this horrendous result, but I think it is a wake-up call. I think fans and the team should be less focused about finishing in second place and more concerned with locking our spot in the top 4. Though it seemed like a formality after the derby victory, we're only seven points ahead of the Scousers, and they have a game in hand, so it is by no means over.

I think you've got to air on the side of caution after a result like this. It's easy to panic but these games happen every season and will always happen. We didn't turn up and got convincingly beaten by a team in very good form and a team who seemed much more up for it than we did. This still takes nothing away from the progress we've made over recent months and how positive the future looks.
We'll finish in the top 4, the run of fantastic results against top sides has put us in a very good position and compensated for any potential slip ups like Yesterday. If Yesterday was just a minor blip and we get back to playing like we did in the previous 6/7 games I expect we'll get at least 10 points from the remaining fixtures, possibly all 12. Of course none of these games will be easy or should be taken lightly, it's the premier league but we've been so superior in most of our recent fixtures that if we get back that recent form we will beat most sides. Also I think Carrick is expected to be back next weekend which will be a huge boost.
