English teams inability to compete in europe

there are now no english teams in the champions league, not only that no english teams in the europa league either
why is it that english teams are not performing in european competitions
is it that the lack of a break is hurting them (i.e. injuries, fatigue, lack of freshness compared to other European counterparts), not as well coached or just not good enough
i think its the former. the lack of a winter break is not helping teams compete, you can't tell me a team like arsenal is worse then monaco, or that everton is worse than dynamo kiev
