Newcastle are working behind the scenes to add to their strikeforce in January, says head coach Steve McClaren.

The Premier League strugglers signed Serbia striker international Aleksandar Mitrovic during the summer but have been deprived of Papiss Cisse and Emmanuel Riviere for long periods during the first half of the campaign.

McClaren has been reticent when quizzed on the subject of the winter window, but asked if he could understand the desperation of fans to know the club's plans, he replied: "Absolutely. Absolutely.

"I understand fully where you're coming from, believe you me. I think I've said enough to say that we do need more goals and that we're working behind the scenes to address that."

Mitrovic is a big unit, so i'd say bringing in a #10 would be the way, Perez honestly isn't a bad shout there also, but maybe more experience, they need to get rid of Cisse already, Cisse has no business at most premier league clubs the way he's played at Newcastle. as a Cisse replacement, Austin would be great but mind you they should have signed him already. They could go after another Anderlecht striker in Imoh Ezekiel or for a bit more maybe a guy like Saido Berahino (would be 20-25 million which would be the whole budget more or less), honestly they need to sort out that defence first before anything else (particularly CB)

he's like the under 19's captain of serbia and has pretty good club form, he isn't a slouch by any means, not saying he will go on to become some superstar but on the face of it, its a good piece of business for 5 million

don't think the a-league would allow it though, they rejected Lampard for the same reason, no way they let Caceres come in then

have no idea what he does for them but they should be signing difference makers, unless he turns into another dimitri payet, in that case that could be an issue
