Do we need one to either compete with Rafael or replace him
I would go for Buying Nathaniel Clyne (one of the best english players at the moment) and selling Valencia (love him but he ain't getting younger, which for a pacey player like him is a bad bad thing) whilst we can get value for money may be best, i would then play Rafael in a similar role to Valencia (backup RB/RWB/occasional RM)

The fact Rafael can't buy a game right now tells you all you need to know about this position. I'd be amazed if we didn't invest in a quality right back in the summer. I really like Clyne and I've not gone off Coleman just because he's had an indifferent season for Everton. I'd take either of them.

I agree, seems like Rafa's United career is coming to an end and we should be getting some quality there, although I'd keep Valencia as a back up option. Apart from Clyne and Coleman we haven't been linked to other right backs (right?) and I don't really know what our other options would be.

we haven't been linked to other right backs (right?) Daniel Alves, Danilo and Marquinhos who can play there as good as on CB.

Bayern's Rafhina is impressive at RB. Could we get him though?

Rafael seems to be gone, I like him but he's not learning quick enough and his injuries are an issue.
Valencia hasn't been too bad there but he's not first team quality.
I'd go for Clyne, been arguably the best right back this season, solid defensively, not bad going forward and shouldn't be too pricey given his contract situation.
Wouldn't mind Coleman either but I'm not struck on the Alves talk, would prefer someone younger.

If we're going for a proper right back for years to come, as I think we should, I'd rather have someone younger than Alves. Don't know much about Danilo, so no comment there. And I doubt Marquinhos is leaving PSG.

Been linked to both.
Van Der Wiel probably because he's Dutch, Marquinhos is decent but would cost a shit load thats if PSG let him go. Better options for me.

Clyne is the obvious choice for me. By far the best RB we could go for all considered. I truly like Marquinhos and I think he could be a hell of a player to get. But he is undoubtedly more suited to a CB position, although, like Rojo, he can cover at full back.

Yes please on Marquinhos. (for our CB issue, not our RB issue, he's as much a right back as smalling and jones is) not surprised by this deal. been linked for a while now

Well, Marquinhos didn't go well for us and now: I am not overly convinced by Clyne so far, don't know why he's getting so much praise really, except the fact he's fast, English and young. As for Danilo and related talk in the New left back thread about Coentrao, Real Madrid doesn't seem to have a problem in buying another quality player on the same position where Carvajal has already proved himself.

Clynes been brilliant this season and his stats speak for themselves. With his contract running out and the new quota coming in it seems a no brainer.
When you have British talents available and of decent quality, should be first port of call for me.
Seen very little of Danilo but you'd probably talking 30m ish rather spend most of our money elsewhere.

He has pace and is very young but some other aspects of his game are fairly average, like his short range passes for instance which is the parameter very important for van Gaal. I'd much rather Coleman than Clyne speaking of British players, but I didn't see us being in danger over new quota. Maybe I'm wrong?
