This could be the match who can be a decider of our fate this season, not much as far as the position on the table is concerned because the teams who are above us could drop points unexpectedly too, but mentally wise.
We've been picking some points the whole season when we deservedly shouldn't, reflecting on performances and some of the luck we rode, so this last one vs Swansea comes as a real kick under the belt as a reminder that you can't rely forever on scraping and scratching. At one point your knife becomes dull and you have to sharpen it again. That's what we need to do right now. I'm talking about our mindset.
What worried me the most today wasn't our out of depth play in the last half an hour and many moments during the game, we have enough creative players who can solve that in the right circumstances, it's that we gave up. It came and was present a lot during the Moyes regime and as it seems, it's still here, in some player's minds. Lumping it to Fellaini isn't the solution, never was, never will as much as he plays well. That was never our way, therefore it shouldn't be in the future too, regardless of the manager and personnel playing. Those were attempts to scrap it again out of despair and ineptness all round.
I don't know for sure in fairness if this was just one off or something to get really concerned over but it's not promising, especially looking at others picking up their momentum, like Arsenal and Liverpool. van Gaal and the staff needs to react and quickly. In which way remains to be seen.

I suspect Valencia will come in for McNair and hopefully Wilson for RVP, other than that not much options.

The same performance as Saturday but more clinical in the final 3rd and we'll win this game with ease. Think Young will definitely start this game, whether it be in an attacking position or at left back I don't know. Would he be able to do the central midfield Di Maria job? I personally don't see why not, he's adapted himself to left back in a way I didn't think he'd be able, he has the energy, workrate and pace, although he may not have the final ball, what exactly is Di Maria doing to show he has it at the minute ( besides the assist for Herrera's goal ) Di Maria isn't doing enough of late and I'd like to see him on the bench. De Gea
Valencia Smalling Rojo Shaw
Blind
Herrera Young
Mata
Rooney Wilson

Dave Valencia Smalling Rojo Young Carrick (if fit) Blind di Maria Mata Rooney Falcao If Carrick is out: Dave Jones Smalling Rojo Young Valencia Blind di Maria Mata Rooney Falcao Bring Herrera in at the 60min mark if we're struggling for tempo and ideas. Bring him in anyway if we lead by 3 or something.

DDG Valencia - Smalling - Rojo - Shaw Blind - Herrera Di Maria - Rooney - Young Falcao That's a pretty sexy line-up, not sure how likely is it to happen though, especially with Di Maria on the right... perhaps a flat 442 would be more suited for our current team

Yep, sexy and eager to let them penetrate through our middle with 2 goals waiting from the shadow. I'm not sure how smart is Blind - Herrera midfield duo. Also, Shaw was a bit of liability defensively. Good at going forward but nothing more.

I'd like Wilson to play I assume he's fit. It's anyones guess what LVG will do regarding the team up top.
The rest, much the same as I asked for against Swansea.
Young has to play from the off and I'd also be finding away to keep Di Maria away from the starting 11. Hasn't been at it for weeks if not months.
I'd probably bring Valencia back in too.

Mersons view on this one
Sunderland are struggling badly at the moment and they cannot score goals, while Manchester United had a bad result last week at Swansea.
However, while United have not been playing well recently, I still expect them to beat Sunderland 3-0.
PAUL PREDICTS: 3-0
