haha love this bit at the end when asked about progress
"When you see the facts, we were further in the Capital One Cup, we qualified for the Champions League group" "The facts are saying that we are better than last year, so that’s my answer because I can only give facts"
Using his analogy it would take till the 18/19 season for us to get to a league cup final . I'd understand the champions league logic if we had gotten a group like Barca, Shakthar and Monchengladbac or something like that but we didn't
Think he's applying the concept of progress a little bit too literally and that's what could hold us back when it matters most

Well he's definitely getting to the end of the season  Even Chelsea aren't going to part ways with Mourinho either by the looks of it despite how badly things are going. Nobody available worth talking about mid season anyway.
It's the league or nothing for me now after tonight. United and cups don't seem to be getting along in recent years, so league might be our best chance. Said it numerous times to date, it's a poor league this year and if him and this United can't win it the way teams around are playing this season he never will. The league is probably easier to win this year than any of the cup competitions we're left in.
If he can't win the league or even just a trophy of any kind I'm not sure what he can achieve within the final 12 months of his contract other than stabilizing the place after the post Fergie shock.

Had my say on the attack issue already. Tonight is nothing more than a moral victory. If we'd played like that in all the group games we'd have been through long before tonight. Can't understand why it took a must win game like tonight to see the shackles taken off our attack a bit more. Hell if we played with that intensity in our league games we'd be clear of the chasing pack in it too.
Wolfsburg away was never going be easy and we shouldn't have put ourselves in that position in the first place.
Nobody's saying we would have won the Champions League but it was an ideal opportunity to pit ourselves against the better teams in the competition too see exactly how far we've come under van Gaal. Are there any great shakes in it other than Bayern or Barca??
I hope van Gaal's eyes have been opened up by this performance and its not another false dawn. Ironically it was our much talked about defense that let us down tonight but on another day/night we could have won it just as easily. The defence can't play as badly again can they?? especially at set pieces?? surely not
I don't know how seriously we are going to take the Europa League now. If we do, it could hinder our league aspirations. I just hope van Gaal doesn't now blow the opportunity our rivals seem to be handing to us in the Prem. Play with that intensity in the league and we should be beating most teams
Losing at home in the cup to Boro and failing to get out of this group is simply unacceptable for United, but the damage was done well before tonight.

A lot rests on the shoulders of Bastian tonight. Fellaini will probably be given a bit of freedom

Team pretty much picks itself. Wolfsburg gone with a strong line-up too. Thought they may have left Schurrle on the bench and brought him on later in the game.
They may well go for this even though they don't necessarily have to win unlike us. Winner takes all. Top spot in group there for the taking as well

Thank you so much Newcastle. Great end to an otherwise miserable weekend.
Another beautiful case of making your own luck in football. The pivotal goal incidentally will go down as a Skrtel OG.
The art of good management is getting your team playing better than the some of its part. Case in point here today

hat trick hero from midweek Origi coming on for Ibe. Last throw of the dice from Klopp. That was Sturridge chance. Thats the danger he poses. Newcastle need to keep the space tight. These are going to throw everything at them now

Sturridge and Lallanna coming on for these. In Sturridge they have a near certain match winner. Newcastle better not lose track of him like Southampton did the other night.
Benteke and Firminho going off

Given them nothing. Good header from a corner just gone over. Good chance for the Magpies
Would cheer me no end to see these dropping points. Looks like Klopp will be bringing on the reinforcements 2nd half.
