He's really starting to pick it up under the leadership of Van Gaal!

He's certainly proving to be a useful squad player. He's always had ability, you just have to look at some of his goals to see that but he's not produced enough on a consistent basis. He's certainly a more useful player in the squad than Nani would be right now, I'd hate to see what happens if we tried to shift Nani back to a full back position.

He's been one of our better players.
Sad that I can say that while keeping a straight face. The past couple years have been tough

When he's at his best he's a tricky, pacey winger with a good right foot. I was actually quite happy when we signed him, always looked good at Villa and he was quite good in his first season. Unfortunately since he's struggled for form and confidence, then being targeted by fans for poor displays.
Van Gaal seems to have gotten him back in some form, despite being played in an unfamiliar position he's been consistent all season when he's played and seems to have his confidence back. I would actually like to see him played further forward on the left hand side. Either way he's a handy player to have in the squad.

Yeah, it's amazing to me how he turned from one of the most hated players to a very useful one this season, you got to give credit where it's due - he did a great job as a wingback and has been giving his all in every game. I guess a new contract will depend on what are Van Gaal's ideas for the future

would still sell to be honest. he's been useful and industrious but still think we need to cash in on him now

Having Shaw with Rojo as cover makes me think that Youngs time with us should be up. I'm the same as Jamie. When he first came to us from Villa I was pleased with the signing which was justified by the way he started his debut season where we played blistering football culminating with the 8-2 win against Arsenil. From there, sadly it went all down hill. Had his fair share of injuries which made it difficult to recapture his form. Ironically at the start of this season he's played his best football since his debut season but for me it's too little too late. Would he be happy as a squad player? I wouldn't of thought so coming into the twilight of his career. I can see the club offering him a contract and if this is the case then it's up to Young to decide if he would be happy sitting on the bench week after week because for me he isn't close to a regular first team spot.

Perfect VG player, versatile, got a bit of pace and can fit in, trains well. No surprise he got a new contract, just surprised he took to VG ethos and methods so quickly.

The main indicator of this being the truth is "Manchester United open new contract talks with Ashley Young." Normally, it would be "Manchester United open NEW CONTRACT talks with Ashley Young."

I was wondering what could possibly be another reason for Ashley's rise of form except that he fits perfectly in the philosophy. One fan has figured it out, well done lad! At the time I thought he got what he deserved. It appeared a completely opposite. How wrong someone can be!

Most improved player in the league this year? Can't think of many others. Not just because he scored the winner Yesterday but just his performances in general pretty much all season. Whether it be at left back or further forward he's been one of the most consistent performers in the team. I can't imagine me choosing a lineup until the end of the season that doesn't include him, which is incredible to say considering what people thought of him at the start of the season.

Without a doubt. It's amazing what some coaching + a lot of confidence can do. Closely followed by Fellaini who even without putting spectacular performances has turned out to be a really helpful player especially when you're facing a physical opposition
