United sign Diogo Dalot Manchester United is delighted to announce the signing of Diogo Dalot from FC Porto on a five-year contract, with an option to extend for a further year. The 19-year-old Portugal Under-21 international came through the ranks of Porto's youth system. He made his debut in Portugal's Primeira Liga earlier this year. Jose Mourinho said: “Diogo is an extremely talented young defender with all the qualities to quickly become a great player for this club. He has all the attributes that a full-back needs: physicality, tactical intelligence and technical quality, combined with a Porto Academy mentality which prepares players for the maturity they need at the professional level. In his age group, he is the best full-back in Europe and we all believe he has a bright future ahead of him at Manchester United.” Diogo Dalot said: “Joining Manchester United is an unbelievable opportunity for me. I have grown up in Porto's Academy and I am so thankful for everything they have done for me. But the chance of coming to the biggest club in the world is something I just couldn't turn down. I'm excited about working with Jose Mourinho and learning everything I can from such a successful coach. I am looking forward to playing alongside the fantastic players in the squad.” www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/Manchester-United-announces-the-signing-of-Diogo-Dalot

He’s played about 6 matches for Porto first team. Looks pretty quick for a full back, rinsed Liverpool in there, two footed as well, very highly rated in Portugal from what I’ve read but we shall see.

one for the future, was in the team of the tournament at youth level world cups / euros regularly. If he develops to plan we'll have RB sorted for years with him and Fosu-Mensah. A lot of if's but I like us to go for such young diamonds.

only 6 matches for Porto and we signed him for nearly 20 mill for a fullback, what the fuck is this actually. Sign a starting quality RB ffs.

yeah, always sign the finished article like all the plastic clubs what is the actual point though when we have TFM already here though who has high potential. If we're getting a right back, why get another prospect. Or at least get someone further down the road in developing than a RB that has 6 games, especially when you're wasting 20 mill on him. that's 20 mill that could have gone into maybe getting a CB.

TFM can play RB but is going to be a CB. You need 2 players for each position anyway so what’s the problem having TFM and Dalot for RB when Tony retires?
Mourinho has already spent on 2 CB and shouldn’t be allowed to sign a CB the 3rd window in a row. Develop what you signed FFS! Bailly, Lindelöf, Jones, Smalling, Rojo, Tuanzebe, Fosu-Mensah, Blind. How many CB do we need? A half decent manager gets something out of this lot, we have 2 youngsters from the academy and signed 2 promising young CB’s. Over to Jose to do his fucking job!

But for 20 mill, you can't tell me we couldn't sign someone better, or at least some youngster who has played more than 6 games in Portugal.
Also most of those CB's aren't up to it i'm sorry. The only one that fills me with confidence as a CB is Bailly (for starting that is). Blind is a good versatile player but starting CB he isn't, the rest of them are squaddies for us really (or at least should be, Jones at this point should be sold, maybe even Rojo).

only time will tell how good Dalot will be but people who know him praise him as the best young RB. He was in the team of the tournament at several youth tournament, euros's or World cups. Contrary to the recent years, this is transfer with vision and foresight how Utd did it in the past and should do it more often. If it pays of he's a bargain, covering our RB spot for a decade. If not, we will get at least a big part of the fee back when we sell him in some years. Not much risk for us but a lot to gain.
Building a team produces the better teams and teamspirit than buying a team together. Its United DNA to give a youth a chance and trust them. We should develop our own stars again. Either from the academy or with young diamonds that we can make world class.
You want Timbo given a chance but at the same time you are crying for a redy made RB to be an instant success. That doesn't fit together.
Its frightening how mny "fans" have been brainwashed by Mourinho that support his bullshit transfer plans of 29/30 year ols who promise instant success. That has absolutely nothing to do with the United way and the sooner we return to what this club is made of the better. The Dalot is one of very very few things you can't criticise in the Mourinho era.
Different with the CB Situation. He was given funds 2 times to sign a CB. Would be ridicoulus if he signs a third, which means he accepts failure to sign the right players resp. to develop young players. It's time to give Tuanzebe or Timbo a chance in the squad. Rojo the first for me to be sold as he's not english and not better than Jones or Smalling. Bailly is our best CB and Lindelöf is just here a season. He showed signs of improvement lately and we all should be patient with him. It should have clear to us all that he doens't come from Portugal to be a Vidic or Rio within months. This impatience nowadays pisses me off! People don't understand the game anymore it seems. Hasn't the history of Utd learned us a lesson? Many of our greats needed time to adapt and ALL yes ALL young players have dips in form. When will people learn this? Whether it was Ronaldo or any other, the all have had their poor performances.

Whether it was Ronaldo or any other, the all have had their poor performances. give me a young RB that can do both. Stuff the 30 year old one, give me one that can play now and play down the line. I want experience at the position at least plus the youth, 20 mill for a guy who played 6 games, is that some kind of joke. as for the CB's, if everton or wolves came for Lindleof, I would not complain, i know its impaitient but he was rubbish for the most part, Jones absolutely should be gone with Rojo. Bailly is the only one worth a damn, also agree, give Tuanzebe and TFM a chance, couldn't possibly be that much worse than Jones or Rojo.
