Am I being harsh saying the attack looked much more dangerous without Mata slowing them down? That front 3 is full of energy and speed. Some of the link up play between the 3 was great as well and has been since Rashford came into the side.

I think there's a case for that tonight, he would have been swallowed whole and quickly marginalised in that game. It's certainly a lot more direct but so are West Ham. In VG's head Mata is the grease keeping the cogs moving, I think the BPL has moved on pace and physicality wise for him.
I tell you what did stick out for me tonight, Herrera bottling heavy 50/50's , made me think about him in a different light

Unlike Herrera thought as he normally doesn't mind putting a foot in. I didn't think he was great tonight but it's no coincidence we play better as an attacking team when he's in the side, the simple thing he does better than any other midfielder at the club is move the ball at pace. The rest can all be accused of holding on to it for too long but with Herrera, as soon as he gets it he's looking to offload and move.

how was, practically the same team this shite on the weekend, then comes in and actually plays well. It pisses me off  be consistent dammit
anyway Wembley for us, hopefully we can go all the way (if we come 5th and win a cup do we go up to the CL via that? or does that only work for the europa league and if you don't finish in one of those places)

Very happy to swallow my words about the midfield in the end. Great showing from the team and from the off we looked to have control of the game and am delighted to be able to say we showed huge desire to get the win throughout.
I really hope Herrera isn't too seriously injured because for me, even though he wasn't his best tonight, with him in the team we always seem to have fluidity in moving the ball around in the attacking third. He's always there to drop a simple one touch pass into threatening areas or to players in attacking positions. If it was down to me he'd be in the team most weeks.
Anyway, great result and bring on Wembley and hopefully a cup final!

I'm not sure it's Mata, but rather the sort of 433 that we used last night. Fellaini in that free role fits really well and the midfield looked better, apart from the last 10-15 minutes. I'm pretty sure Mata can fit in well in that free role as well - it would just depend on the opposition - obviously if we're looking for someone to break a strong defense apart we can go with Fellaini and when looking for a more creative player we can use Mata
