Reminds me of my Granddad (A Liverpool fan of 60+ years and born in Liverpool) who used to get free United tickets because of his job and took me to Old Trafford watching us against Liverpool in 2000. They scored first from a Patrick Berger free-kick, he sat still and contained his excitement. Then we equalised through Solskjaer and all the United fans around us were rubbing his head and celebrating with him

Reminds me of Rooney at Anfield scoring the winner in 2005, couldn't open me mouth, surrounded by scousers. Was dying to jump up and cheer, but held my counsel thankfully cos they are a very bitter shower.

Enjoyed the game. Thought we played well. Second half more than the first half but I thought the pundits were over critical of our first half performance, they had 1 chance and scored from a well worked goal.
All 3 goals were great to see, the first because it was just such a beautiful strike and the other 2 were really well orchestrated and finished off.
Most impressive performances, besides the uncontrollable Martial were that of the 2 young full backs, particularly Varela. Very solid and sensible defensively but offers a real threat going forward. Definitely deserves more game time.
Only frustrations were the insistence on Fellaini playing in midfield a fucking gain and offering absolutely nothing, coupled with the fact it's another game and another 90 minutes that Pereira spends on the bench.
All in all an entertaining and fuss free evening that gets us another step closer to some silverware and who knows? It may be 10th times the charm in terms of a result kick-starting our season.

It was a good professional performance, the result never looked in doubt last night. Dominated the first half, lovely strike from Wayne and they scored a nicely worked goal but we reacted well after that. We could have easily gone into our shell, second half we came out and picked up where we left off, with more attacking intent and urgency, you could see that the goal was coming before Blind finally got it which was good to see. Then we finished them off with another well worked goal from Mata. Martial although man of the match still overplayed some moves, the two full backs were great as well, CBJ is coolness personified and Varela gave us that pace and energy we've been lacking from our full backs. I agree with you Jamie about those frustrations but winning and a good performance is the priority. I think once he gets the first team confident and flowing we'll see them come in some more. Carrick being back is a boost as we are really lacking a passer in midfield, delightful ball through to Martial among others that anyone else wouldn't have attempted. Into the next round we go

I'll take anything that gives a bit of confidence and builds momentum, tbh

Talking about Blind. His goal from last night just further convinced me that we need to get him back in midfield ASAP. As good a job he's doing at centre back he's wasted there. I think he's too good on the ball to just be used as an all round utility player. Hopefully next season we'll see him move back into midfield.

yep, going to be a really invaluable player in the future, so versatile it's untrue.
You can see why the Dutch concept of total football kicked off when players like Blind appear. In the 70s you had a much bigger pool of them and they were virtually all more skilful than Daley, quite frightening really.
I think what VG, as the older Dutch generation who grew up with the greats, finds so difficult in modern football today is the lack of adept technical footballers, like yer Blinds. I mean, we (UK) have rarely produced that type of player and the Dutch have now all but dried up with that type of talent.

Convincing win after a long time. And its one of the games where many players put in a good performance.
Martial is really impressive, Varela had a good game too, we need to keep Varela, thought of loaning him out is madness. I know its only Derby but its a impressive win and we can build some confidence from this game.
