According to the star we are closing in on Schniederlin
20 million upfront with the fee rising to 25 million with bonuses
Good deal if we get it done. Honestly i think i would be more then happy with our CM then. if we are going 4-3-3 one of Mata or Di Maria are playing as an AM so Schniederlin slightly deeper than Herrera is good
The amount of interceptions we will get in midfield plus his passing is like high 80's, low 90's last year.

Any chance you could use the ounce of common sense you have and work out that if we were truly in for Clyne or Firmino they'd have come here. It's getting really tiresome now. Next you'll be bemoaning the fact that we didn't make a move for Milner. its not like we've been linked with clyne for 8 months. We all know we need a new RB and its one of the key positions, Clyne was the most realistic, and at 12 million its a steal. Do we all know we need a new right back? I've said I'd be more than happy sticking with what we've got. The only way we should be signing another right back is if we can get someone of the highest level or if Rafa leaves and we bring in someone to compete with Valencia and that's all I'd have seen Clyne as. Sure, eventually he may have taken the first team spot but there's no way he'd have just walked into our starting 11, not with Valencia's form last season.

no way he'd have just walked into our starting 11, not with Valencia's form last season Exactly. I don't get that "we must bring in a RB" thing. People are so convinced Valencia is a winger that they just want to add a "proper", natural RB. But the truth is Valencia has been excellent last season, and it will be very hard to get a better player in that position. Whether people like it or not, Valencia has made that RB spot his own, and it's fully deserved. I don't see many players out there who I would put ahead of Valencia, especially in the PL.

We could do with a specialist RB, Valencia's done very well but there are still issues with his game and he's still learning. Van Gaal's said that he wants two players per position, he isn't interested in Rafa and it doesn't look like there is anyone to promote from within.
Love has looked good for the reserves, though seen him very few times, is he actually RB? maybe he can impress on tour and again McNair possibly but he's a CB for me all day. I'd be quite stunned not to see us bring in a RB, I like Clyne and for 12m you can't really go wrong but we clearly aren't interested, so no skin off my nose there.

Indeed, bet Rafa does too but the inevitable will come and if not this season then on a free next. Good, I was gonna tell you off for being a dick if it was you  they are more up their own arse on there than TR

I very much like the idea of bringing Varela back. Rafa's had his chance and isn't fancied by the manager and understandably so. Varela to play back up to Valencia and provide competition is the way to go. If we're going to sign someone I'd prefer us to bring in a young talent.

I'm with Matt on Valencia as well. I think his form last season has been hugely underrated because he's not a right back in our minds. I can't think of much he did wrong last season, the mistake against Arsenal in the cup is obviously the one that sticks out but that sort of mistake can happen to anyone.
He's got all the physical attributes to play the position and play it well. He's strong, he's quick, he has great stamina and due to his former life as a winger he's great in the attacking third of the pitch as well (lets not forget the relationship he, Mata and Herrera built up last season). Add to that the fact he seems to have learned a lot about how to play the position and I really don't see many right backs out there I'd take as 1st choice over him, at least anyone realistic.

Similar username Bren.
I agree there's not much options for a first choice quality improvement but a youngish player to compete with Tony would be good. Not sure Varela will be here either but we shall see.
