I couldn't accept that, especially after losing Welbeck for Falcao and RVP who are...gone.
Lingard may never be a Messi, Neymar, etc, but he has something in him. I believe he can become a better version of last season's Ashley Young. And don't take it the wrong way: for me it's a very positive thing to say.

Academy product Lingard came off the bench for the second half at Goodison Park and is retained in the squad for the Champions League encounter at CSKA Moscow.
Van Gaal, always a fan of multi-functional players, appears pleased with the progress of both prospects.
"He [Martial] can play, in my opinion, four positions," the boss told MUTV. "He can play at seven, as a right-winger, 11 – the left-winger, the striker's position and also at 10, I believe. But he has played in Monaco always in the left-winger position. That is why I put him there against Everton and also because of [Seamus] Coleman. I think he's a very good right full-back so we could take benefit of the qualities of Martial also.
"Lingard's competitor is Juan Mata and his competitor is also, for example, Ander Herrera or Wayne Rooney or, when he is played on the left, because he can also play on the left, his competitor was Memphis [Depay]. So it's not easy to come in.
"He trained from the beginning, also in the United States of America, and maybe you remember his goal [against Barcelona]? He played very good in that match and trained very well. He has to wait for his moment and maybe his moment has arrived now."

He's only gone and got a call up to the England squad for the France game. Good lad Jesse!

Aye. Shows the lack of quality in the setup when a guy who's only played what? 7/8 first team games at premier league level gets in the squad.

Lingard getting some praise for his no.10 performance being in the way SAF used Park at times. Maybe I haven't had a close enough look at him but I wasn't too convinced by his performance.

Jesse is only just getting back into the swing of things. He'll be an important member of the first team for years to come if he can stay injury free and develop his consistency. Excellent player in the making

I was definitely impressed by his movement, pace and his pressing efforts as well as tracking back - he really puts in a shift Also love his out and out dedication to the club and his team mates He's still a work in progress for me his pass timing or weight are sometimes out but the right intention is there. If he can fine-tune the delivery it bodes well for the future. The main question for me is how many number 10s do we need and can lingard beef it up a bit physically ? Found this related article where he explains his own impressions of this role www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/man-united-midfielder-jesse-lingard-7605558

Best thing about Jesse is always his intent. He doesn't always get it right but he always wants to move the ball forward quickly. Whether that be with a pass or running with the ball himself. He's still developing at this level himself though and considering this is his first season at the highest level in English football I think he's done really well this season. Plenty more to come.

Completely agree, he's done very well and it's a bit baffling how people don't want to praise or rate him, credits where credits due he's come in and held down his place, others may be more naturally talented but if you work hard you can go places.
I thought he looked good in the central role against Liverpool and at the weekend, always on the move looking for space or being available for the pass, when he received the ball he was always looking to make driving runs and take someone on. It didn't always come off as you guys have said but the intention was there, he's a had a great first season, contributed on the goal scoring front, just needs to sharpen his finishing and final ball but that will come with more games.
