Because Everton have always been in the Shadow of Liverpool, anything in Red is treated like a Red Rag to a Bull. Plus historically beating United was a huge kudo.
Even this lot of Red Shirted " Wonder which team I will be playing for next Season " losers will be seen as a great step forward.

That's your 'backs up against the wall, threat of relegation, we need a result' mentality verses 'we've already checked out and gone on holiday and chasing top 4 wasn't for us anyway' mentality.
