no matter what players we sign in the summer, if we don't change tactics we are doomed to fail. Individual qualities may keep us 6th or 5th but no way we are challenging for the title the way we are playing now. We could sign neymar, messi and Ronaldo with no change of outcome unless we start playing like succesful teams do nowadays. Pressing, movement width are key. None of that is part of Mou's style.
But we do press... Ok used to press in the beginning and middle of the season, the last few games were a little bit off. As for width, we've gone the entire season with width only on the right side, because there's nobody like Valencia on the left.
There were reason for and against Mourinho I have been undecided a long time before he came. In the end a lot convinced me that his winning mentality would bring short term success which we needed badly.
A half year on I see only one positive, his name may have got us the players we wanted.
Otherwise all fears have com true. His bad behaviour (even worse than expected towards our players), his horrible handling of youth, his defensive minded negative football (ok there were some exceptions).
The better I know him the more I know he is not the United way at all!
A United Manger should be honourable guy that plays attacking football and gives youth a chance.
Totally disappointed of his first season!
My biggest fear now is, that is going for again for ready made players at the age of 28 plus who get their last big contract here with no sell on value which he doesn't need to develop. At the same time he sells our future with the likes of fosu-mensah, Shaw etc. and then we are left with scorched earth when he maybe leaves at the end of his contract. He hasn't had the backing of the players at any club for longer than 3 years.
I am really concerned about our future and especially the next transfer window.
• New contract sees the Portuguese committed to Old Trafford until at least 2020
Speaking of the new contract, Ed Woodward said:
“Jose has already achieved a great deal as Manchester United manager and I am delighted that he has agreed to extend his commitment until at least 2020. His work rate and professionalism are exceptional and he has embraced the club’s desire to promote top quality young players to the first team. He has brought an energy and a sense of purpose to everything that he does and I am sure that will continue to bring results for the fans and the club.”
Jose Mourinho said:
“I am really honoured and proud to be Manchester United manager. I would like to say a big thank you to the owners and to Mr Woodward for the recognition of my hard work and dedication. I am delighted they feel and trust that I am the right manager for this great club for the foreseeable future.
“We have set very high standards - winning three trophies in one season - but those are the standards I expect my teams to aim for. We are creating the conditions for a brilliant and successful future for Manchester United.
“My thanks, of course, go to my staff and to my players; without their empathy and friendship this wouldn’t be possible. I love my players and it is a pleasure to know that we are going to be together for at least the next three years.
“And I cannot finish without thanking the fans for their support and for making me feel at home so quickly. I repeat, to be Manchester United manager is an honour every day and I am really happy.”
Well in football Contracts are written on Rice Paper and I would not be surprised if MO took an early bath. The results are poor and his attitude is " so What " with a shrug of his shoulders. He is miserable all the time and does not have The Old Trafford Fire in His Belly. Get a grip Mo and show some passion, feel the Hurt the fans feel, for the lords sake throw some boots in the changing room !!!!! Totally fed up !
PSG could easily buy him out and i hope they do. Let him go to Paris, take the donkey with him and we can someone else, this time, an actual long term replacement (I wouldn't mind Ancelotti for a extended period of time but i do worry that at some stage the game will pass him by), if he can speak english, Simeone seems to be somewhat similar to Fergie style wise, sure, not the best to the eye but its still attacking and you will see real graft from the teams, the team won't be losing for a want of trying.
I do like Leonardo Jardim also. I might even give Conte a chance since we're a more stable situation than there at least.
With Mo's comments about United and Europe doesn't he think it is his job to improve matters and not use them as excuses for his own failings. Seems his outlook is it is OK if we fail because we are expected too !
I agree with his comments that some of the players should " man up " but he chose them to play, he is on the touchline to control the play so Yank Off the non performers,
Actually I think he would like an early exit as he realizes he is not s shade of the City manager and the Special One as become the Useless One.
Do people think we'd have seen a different Mou if he was made manager after SAF instead of being given sloppy thirds? It seems to me he's the type of man to harbour a vengeful side and I'm sure it hurt him badly that he wasn't given first shot. He's always been there's me then the rest of the world type of guy but he has never paid into the United philosophy even though at times he has played quite attractive football at other clubs he's been at. Is his vengeful side so deep he doesn't give a shit about taking us in the right direction or is he simply not able to adapt to the modern game with his out dated tactics?
Mourinho is the antithesis of United precisely why we didn’t go for him first time round, perhaps being more in his prime and with less quality managers to compete with we’d have seen some success with him but he just can’t help himself and the inevitable would happen.
